There is no doubt that Washington state is a unique place to live, work and play. When people think of Washington they may consider our dense forest, or the seemingly plethora of coffee shops we have, or even perhaps one of our volcanoes or any of the other numerous traits that truly distinguish our state. However, one of those elements that can be overlooked is the abundance of food sources and culinary experts found right here. Washington state is home to some 300 different food crops that help to create our meals, enhance our culture, drive our economy and feed the world.
During the past year, the Washington State Potato Commission has teamed up with other farm groups to help share the story of agriculture and food with Washingtonians around the state. One of the key elements of this effort has been the development of Washington Grown. Washington Grown will highlight the amazing food scene and industry found throughout every region of our state. As a part of the effort, 13 episodes of a Washington Grown TV show have been created. Each episode will showcase Washington farmers, local chefs, regional food processors and other key topics. The debut episode was all about Washington potatoes. We invite you to watch the potato episode here or visit www.wagrown.com to learn more and to see some of the other episodes that have been created.
