Potato Farmers Giving Back
Spring is always a busy time for our region’s potato farmers. However; in addition to all of the work they are planning to accomplish in their fields to prepare for this year’s growing season, they have also been active in giving back to their communities. So far in 2016, potato farmers and their families have teamed up to benefit everything from cancer research to helping fight hunger.
Washington Grown Receives Multiple Emmy Nominations
Washington Grown, a weekly television show dedicated to sharing Washington’s Ag story with the public has been nominated for three different Emmy® Awards (Northwest Chapter of National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences). While these are not the first awards the show has earned (Washington Grown also won national Telly Awards in 2014 & 2015 and the host Kristi Gorenson was nominated for an Emmy® in 2014), these are the first Emmy® nominations the show itself has received.
New WSPC Chair Elected During Annual Meeting
Moses Lake – The Washington State Potato Commission (WSPC) held their annual meeting last week and elected the organization’s new Executive Committee for the upcoming fiscal year. Mike Dodds was named chair of the Commission and will officially begin his term July 1, 2015. Dodds is the Raw Materials and Environmental Manager for the Moses Lake facility of Basic American Foods. Dodds will follow Nelson Cox who has chaired the Commission since last July.
