WASHINGTON (WA) STATE FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA (FFA) POTATO EVALUATION AND TRACTOR DRIVING CDE

ffa7ffa6At the Grant County Fairgrounds in Moses Lake, Washington, FFA students gathered Wednesday morning from all over the State to participate in the annual State Potato Evaluation and Tractor Driving CDE competition. With over 50 teams and 300 students, this was the WA FFA’s largest event of the year. Potatoes were brought in and graded by the United States Department of Agriculture for the students to identify potato storage, grading, pests, diseases and varieties. This year Team Cheney 1 took home first place in the 2023 Potato Evaluation CDE with Moses Lake coming in second and East Valley Spokane, third. The Top Overall High Individual was Serendipity Gooley, Cheney 1. The Tractor Driving CDE has the students demonstrate their skill and precision in operating farm machinery, including safety and operation. The 2023 winning Tractor Driving CDE team was Lynden Christian, with Kiona-Benton in second and Stanwood, third. The Overall High Individual in this event was Michael Marshbanks, Kiona-Benton. The Washington State Potato Commission sponsors this event for WA FFAAssociation and provides a delicious lunch of baked potatoes to all the students, teachers, coaches and judges.
