Culinary Student Competition Winners
After dozens of entries, two students from the Seattle Culinary Academy at Seattle Central Community College tied for first place in the recent culinary student recipe contest sponsored by the Washington State Potato Commission (WSPC). The WSPC sent out the challenge to all students at accredited ACF culinary programs throughout Washington state. The student’s task was to show off their creativity with Washington state potatoes. In return the top six finalists each participated in a competition where they had to prepare and present their dish to a panel of five judges. All six finalists also received cash prizes.

Paolo Campbell teamed the flavors of Provence and Asia in his Asian Brandade Cod Cakes, a crisp-outside, creamy -inside appetizer or entrée cake of cod flavored with ginger and curry. See his recipe here.
Jihoon Sun, studying in Seattle from South Korea, presented Potato Croquettes with a shrimp/scallop Thai curry filling. See his recipe here.
Both recipes showcased the versatility of potatoes and their adaptability to a variety of ethnic cuisines.The judging panel included culinary educators and chefs from the Seattle area. The contest was sponsored by the 250 potato growers in Washington state to recognize the creativity of students in the ACF accredited culinary education programs.
