The mission of the Washington State Potato Commission is to serve the potato growers of Washington State by facilitating the awareness and value of Washington state potatoes. The main functions of the Commission are to enhance trade opportunities, to advance environmentally sound production and cultural practices through research, and to represent the growers' interests in areas and issues relating to education, trade barriers, irrigation, transportation and crop protection.
With an annual budget of approximately $3 million, the Washington State Potato Commission and its members work to the benefit of all Washington potato growers.
Established in 1956, the Commission has the legislated authority to collect assessments from growers to pursue its mission on behalf of Washington potato growers. The Commission is governed by thirteen commissioners who serve two-year, rotating terms. A staff of eight operates the Moses Lake office.
While keeping the state's 300 growers apprised of significant issues, news and advice, the Commission represents their interests in its work with businesses, domestic and international markets, the media, and leaders in the state and national capitals.
